Edithvale Aspendale

Since the formation of the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League in 1987 only Frankston YCW has achieved more senior grade premiership success than Edithvale Aspendale. The Eagles’ first flag came in the new competition’s inaugural season, in Division Two, thanks to a 16.17 (113) to 13.11 (89) grand final defeat of Rosebud. Since 1988 the club has competed in the MPNFL’s top flight, known initially as Division One, then as the Premier League from 1995 to 2004, and since 2005 as the Peninsula League.

The Eagles reached the grand final in their debut season in Division One, but lost to Pines by 9 points. A year later they made emphatic amends with a 20.13 (133) to 11.7 (73) grand final defeat of Chelsea. The 1990 season brought a third consecutive grand final appearance but on this occasion Chelsea proved too powerful.

Between 1998 and 2000 Edithvale Aspendale again contested a hat trick of grand finals, all against Mornington. The first of these was lost by a margin of 42 points, but in 1999 the Eagles emerged victorious by 10 points, and in 2000 they triumphed in resounding fashion by 99 points, 24.20 (164) to 9.11 (65).

The Eagles’ fourth top grade premiership came in 2002 when they accounted for Pines by 32 points, 21.14 (140) to 17.6 (108). They have continued to perform consistently well since, finishing third in 2003, then sixth, fourth, fifth and fourth. In 2008 they qualified for their eighth top division MPNFL grand final, but went down by 5 goals to Seaford. A year later they were again consigned to the runners-up spot, once more at the hands of Seaford, this time by a margin of 57 points. The Eagles' most recent grand final appearance in 2013 resulted in victory over Bonbeach with scores of 13.15 (93) to 12.14 (86). Subsequent seasons have seen them finish fourth (both 2014 and 2015), fifth (2016), third (2017), fifth (2018) and eighth (2019).

Prior to commencing in the MPNFL Edithvale Aspendale had been a long standing member of the Mornington Peninsula Football League, procuring senior grade Division One flags in 1965 and 1978.
